Dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

This is the original Ruth's Chris Steakhouse from 40 years ago in New Orleans. Ruth bought the Chris Steakhouse and after a fire had to relocate and found she couldn't take the name with so she added her name to the new business and a star was born.

We were on a Phoenix vacation and thought we'd get all "Scottsdaled up" like the locals and yee haw out to dinner. This restaurant is as elegant as all Ruth's Chris' are with the obligatory Arizona, al fresco dining.

After some cocktails, we started with Ruth's signature House Chopped Salad which looks like it is compressed in a can and then pushed out onto the plate.

And after its deconstruction is started

Vicki had the famous Ruth's Chris' Filet and added Alaskan King Crab as a compliment. We found that their version of " add King Crab" is a lot different than ours. A little on the skimpy side though truly Alaskan King.

It is to be noted that all their meats are served on unbelievably hot plates (1500 degrees, they warn the diners) and soaking in butter and seasoning.

I opted for the Lamb Chops which are three thick chops also drenched in butter and on a hot plate. You know the grill chef is good because the meat keeps cooking when on the heated plate and the temperature is spot on as ordered when you cut into it.

The restaurant's ambiance is relaxed and formal at the same time.

They don't have a dress code and everyone is comfortable regardless of what you're wearing. I have never known them to turn anyone away, however, the casual dress would be slacks, a sport shirt, and decent shoes, not flip-flops. This is a high-class restaurant.

"Scottsdaled up" can mean $250 jeans and a $180 Tommy Bahama shirt. Don't ask about the ladies' dresses.

We found their wine list had a perennial favorite: Belle Glos Pinot Noir from the Clark and Telephone Vineyard. We call it the Superman wine because, you know, Clark Kent and he changes in a telephone booth.

Alaskan King Crab, creamed mashed potatoes
with my lamb chops and the top of my thumb, Yummy.

Filet and lobster with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.

We ended with not one, but two Creme Brulees and a mini carrot cake to go.
