Dinner at Kinley's Restaurant

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kinley's Restaurant off the Old Seward Highway (kinda). It's next to Moose's Tooth Pizza.

Owner and Chef Brett Knipmeyer is an old friend from his days as head chef at Jens' Restaurant when I did Jens' first website. Brett has impressive creds and Kinley's decor, menu, and food reflect that. The restaurant is named after Brett's daughter Kinley.

Vicki and I started with some Alaskan oysters, as usual, They were tasty, succulent tidbits served with a wine mignonette. Like a typical Alaskan, I had some "three-mile island" power cocktail sauce
 too.

If anyone notices and comments that the oysters in the picture aren't Alaskan oysters then you win the prize. I neglected to take a photo of the actual ones we were served and had to clip one from my photo vault.

We next split a Caesar salad. Nice dressing, not too tart or runny as some can be. Big, tasty croutons and thick with shaved parmesan cheese.

The night we went, Kinley's had a short rib dinner special. I'm usually skeptical of short ribs in restaurants as they tend to be, well, short on the rib meat. This one was not that at all. a healthy portion, juicy and tender. Accompanied with Jasmine rice and an Asian fusion baby Bok Choy vegetable mix. I kept looking for a rib bone hidden in the serving but none was to be found - it was all meat.

Vicki had her perpetual favorite when it appears on a menu: encrusted Halibut. This one was served on a Cherry and Apple Cider Beurre Blanc.  A tasty piece with the right amount of crusting and moist inside. It came with Jasmine Rice and sprigs of Brocolini.

Of course, the table next to us had a delicious-looking dessert: a "death by chocolate" ice cream tower with berries, whipped cream, and more shaved chocolate. We just had to have one to share.

Kinley's is tastefully designed and has a full liquor bar along with a plentiful wine selection and lots of tap beers. There are also ample meeting rooms and banquet facilities.
