Chair 5 in Girdwood

 

Chair 5, the old Girdwood standby burger, pizza, beer, pool, and all-around general ski area gathering place.

On a sunny day last week, our drive started down the Seward Highway in search of a late lunch.

Originally, we were headed to the Turnagain Arm Pit BBQ. Their Facebook page and Yelp said "open now" and the BBQ was always great when we frequented their Anchorage location. So we were pretty disappointed when upon arrival we saw they were closed for the season. I presume they meant the winter season. 

They could at least keep their social media content updated.

Since we were already halfway there, we decided to press on to Girdwood to Chair 5. It's always been a favorite spot with all the wood: heavy log chairs, walls, bar, etc. 

Speaking of the bar, it was semi-busy with noisy patrons. We got to see a pretty good pool game while we had our lunch. The big guy in the orange shirt vs the barely visible guy in red on the far right. Many tough shots were made and some easy ones were muffed. BTW, the bar has a $1 fine for dropping a pool cue on the floor. The big guy paid twice.

Now back to our dining experience. The server was friendly and prompt with taking drink orders and mentioning the specials which were Halibut fish and chips, and daily soup: creamy chicken noodle all homemade including the noodles. 

I dove into my cup of soup before I thought to take the photo but you get the idea. With the pint of Hef ', it was a good start.

Here is a photo of the Caesar salad I could have had but there were other things on the menu that caught my eye.

Vicki fell for the Fish and chips special breaded in panko. These are before and after photos. As we knew there were going to be people bags to go.

I had the blackened Halibut sandwich, not 3-mile island heat, thank you. And, of course, my leftover half.

Chair 5 has always been known for its pizza par excellence so this was the main reason to eat lightly and get at least a medium meat lover para llevar. Which we did. 

Pizza, it's not just for lunch or dinner, but for midnight snacks and breakfast too.

I hope you get a chance to appreciate the good food and conviviality of Chair 5 and that they keep their unique atmosphere and don't go all touristy on us.
